Hotels are comfortable. Hostels are memorable.
Hostels force you to be social. You share a room with strangers. You eat breakfast together. You end up exploring the city with people you met hours ago.
The best hostels have more than beds. They have common areas, group dinners, walking tours, pub crawls. The events are where friendships form.
Hostels save money. A dorm bed costs a fraction of a hotel room. That money goes towards experiences instead of sleeping.
They are not all party hostels. Many hostels are quiet and respectful. Family hostels exist. Coworking hostels exist. There is a hostel for every type of traveler.
The downside is privacy. You share a room. You hear snoring. You deal with other people schedules. That is the trade off.
But the connections you make are worth it. Some of my closest friends are people I met in hostel common rooms.
